Career Development Services
Dr. Kozu offers services that address issues relevant
to any stages of your career development via Career
Testing/Assessment and Career Counseling & Coaching.
What is Career Testing &
Assessment?
Assessment is critical in career interventions at
all stages of your career. It is often done via interviews and/or
testing and helps you gain self knowledge and awareness. For
example, such information about you can help you understand your
options, choose a career direction, and identify necessary preparations.
Assessments conducted in Career Counseling and Coaching often measure:
interests, values, aptitudes, confidence, traits, interpersonal patterns
and preferences. The choice of methods and contents depends on
each individual's needs, goals, and budget.
Who can benefit from Career
Counseling & Coaching?
The following are some of the typical reasons why people
seek career counseling and coaching:
 |
Career Exploration, Selection, Preparation, Decision, Entry Stages
I have a certain occupation in mind, but I don't
know what to major in college and how to prepare for it.
There are many career options, but I don't know which to choose.
I have a dream, but I do not know how to make it come true.
I've chosen a career that's consistent with my family's expectations, but I'm
not sure if it's really right for me.
I'm not comfortable with my job and work environment.
I finally got adjusted to the work. Now I want to develop a career plan.

Career Advancement and Maintenance Stages
I need to improve my interpersonal skills. I
want to be able to deal with difficult people at work.
I work with customers and associates in foreign countries. I don't know how to
"read" them.
I want to improve my communication skills in the areas of assertion,
presentation, negotiation, influencing.
I've become a team leader. How can I develop a productive team?
I want to enhance my leadership ability so that I can advance my career.
I know I need to delegate tasks but can't. It's quicker to do it all by
myself.
I am now required to serve as a coach and mentor to my subordinates. But how
do I do it?
It's hard to balance work and family.
|
 |
Career Transition and Change
I need help in determining (or changing) my
career path.
I want to find a new career that is more satisfying. But it's a big
leap.
Do I really need to implement my self-concept (who I really am) through a
career?
How do I successfully make the transition from manager to executive?
I am afraid I'll get laid off. I want to be prepared for the next step.

Career Counseling vs. Coaching?
There is no agreement among professionals.
However, certain things are clear. First of all, counseling
psychologists have traditionally been the experts in the practice and
research of career development. They provide services that are
grounded in theories that have developed over several decades.
Second, career counselors and counseling
psychologists tend to work with those at the early stages of career
development, from exploration to entry.
To the contrary, the enterprise of coaching itself
is rather new and its practitioners' backgrounds are diverse; not all career
coaches have solid education and training in career development.
Dr. Kozu considers
career coaching as a process in which a coach 1) helps set goals and the end
results for specific work challenges the client is facing; 2) helps define
steps toward them; 3) ensures the client reach the goals. She employs this
process in all stages of career development.
In her career
development services, Dr. Kozu combines the elements of both career counseling
and coaching. They are all based on the psychological theories and
practice of career development, organization, learning, group dynamics, to name
a few.
